Nuru Ya Mafia is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit-making organisation established to serve the Mafia island community.
Our head office is situated at Utende village, Kiegeani, Mafia district in the Coast region, Tanzania.

Our activities are carried out on Mafia Island. The official languages of the Organisation are Kiswahili and English.
Nuru Ya Mafia is Registered under the NGOs Act NO.24, 2002.
We are committed to creating sustainable change through these key focus areas:
To establish and operate plastic waste collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure on Mafia Island.
To assist Mafia residents, especially poor and marginalized groups, to have access to good and effective education and health services.
To raise awareness of climate change and associated environmental issues, while building the capacity of communities in Mafia District to adapt to associated impacts.
To create social awareness about the sensitive issues of education, health and the importance of preserving our environment.
To create green jobs and income-generating opportunities through circular economy initiatives.
To collaborate with local government, private sector and international partners to make Mafia Island plastic-waste free.
